Apex Hospitals Surgeons Save the Life of a Patient with a Rare Gastric Volvulus Condition

In a landmark surgical achievement, Apex Hospitals, Jaipur, successfully treated a 40-year-old man suffering from gastric volvulus, a rare and potentially life-threatening condition in which the stomach twists on its axis.
The patient, who had been experiencing chronic abdominal pain and persistent vomiting after every meal, was diagnosed with this severe gastric disorder during preliminary investigations. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Rajnish, Consultant General Surgeon at Apex Hospitals, a minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery was carried out, lasting approximately one hour.
Dr. Rajnish explained, “The patient’s stomach had rotated abnormally—a condition known as gastric volvulus, which carries a mortality risk of 30 to 40 percent if not treated promptly. We immediately planned the surgery, and thanks to timely intervention and advanced techniques, we were able to discharge the patient in just 48 hours post-operation.”
He further emphasized that early diagnosis and treatment are critical in such cases. “Delays can lead to complications like tissue necrosis and severe digestive issues,” he added.
Apex Hospitals continues to uphold its reputation as a centre of excellence in surgical and critical care with its state-of-the-art infrastructure, cutting-edge technology, and a team of highly experienced specialists.
