First Successful Robotic Thyroidectomy Performed in Jaipur at Apex Hospital

Apex Hospital News

In a groundbreaking medical achievement, doctors at Apex Hospital have successfully performed Jaipur’s first robotic thyroidectomy without making any incision on the patient’s neck. This minimally invasive procedure, carried out using advanced robotic technology, marks a significant leap in cancer treatment in the city.

Dr. Rahul Yadav, Surgical Oncologist at Apex Hospital, led the team that treated a 50-year-old woman suffering from thyroid cancer. After detailed investigations, the surgical team opted for a robotic approach. Using robotic arms, three small 10 mm incisions were made on the patient's chest, avoiding any visible scar on the neck. Through this method, the cancerous thyroid gland was carefully removed, and the tumour was destroyed. The complex surgery lasted approximately three hours, and the patient was discharged just five days later.

Highlighting the complexity of the surgery, Dr. Yadav explained that preserving the parathyroid glands while removing the tumour made the operation particularly challenging. Traditionally, thyroid cancer surgeries involve large incisions on the neck, often leaving permanent and visible scars. In contrast, robotic surgery ensures a scarless recovery and superior cosmetic outcomes.

This procedure is not only a first for Jaipur but also sets a new benchmark in Rajasthan. Notably, Apex Hospital’s Department of Robotic Surgery is the first in the state to perform surgeries using a Make-in-India robotic system. By embracing cutting-edge innovation, the hospital’s surgeons now offer the benefits of minimally invasive surgery, less pain, faster recovery, and fewer complications to a wider range of patients.

With this success, Apex Hospital continues to redefine cancer care in India and make world-class treatment accessible to all.
